We held our Spring Grounds Day on Thursday. It was a beautiful day to get out in the Spring sunshine. We are so grateful to our amazing team of parents and other volunteers, including Rev. Clive and representatives of Billingshurst Lions who came out in force to work hard on our environmental area. THANK YOU
This Girl Can
This week we took two teams to This Girl Can at The Weald. Initially we were going to have one team playing netball and the second team playing football, however due to fewer teams being able to attend than hoped, both of our teams took part in a mini football tournament and then a mini netball tournament.
We are so proud of all the players as they pushed themselves out of their comfort zones and played brilliantly.
Our pink team won the football tournament and our green team won the netball tournament.

Henry Adams - World Book Day Competition
Our thanks go to Dee Tickner from Henry Adams who came into school again this week to judge the incredible entries into their World Book Day Competion - to make a well-know book character using a recycled cardboard tube/s together with other reclaimed materials and other items you may have at home.
Thankyou to eveyone who entered and well done to our competition winners. One of the amazing creations will now be entered into the Chichester Festival Theatre competition to win Theatre Tickets.

The Billingshurst Lions Book Giveway
We welcomed members of the Billingshurst Lions into school this week with lots of beautiful books. Every child had the opportunity to go into the school hall and select a new book to take home and keep. Thank you to the Billingshurst for this opportunity.
Tractor Visit
Thankyou to Mr Ellis who came to visit us today with his very big and shiny green John Deere Tractor. Many of the children got to sit in the cab and some even sounded the extremely noisy horn!

On Wednesday a group of Year 5 and Year 6 children visited the Weald School to take part in PE event with children from other schools in our locality.
Hockey Success
On Monday 9th December we took two teams to The Weald to take part in a quick sticks hockey tournament. They were quickly nicknamed The Lions and The Tigers. Both teams played brilliantly winning all their games against other schools. The decider then came when The Lions had to play The Tigers. It was a hard fought match and in the end the Tigers cam out on top.
Overall The lions came second and The Tigers came first.
Well done to all our players. We are really proud of you.
E-Safety Poster Competition winners
We recently held a competition for children to design posters with our E-Safety slogan: "Stop Close Tell.” We had a brilliant response with over 50 entries! Thank you to all the families who took part and hopefully it led to good discussions about keeping safe online. I would also like to share this wonderful resource with you https://www.childnet.com/ It covers many specific ways to keep children safe.
Congratulations to our winners from KS2: Isla, Finn, George, Olivia and Jack
And from KS1: Lily and Florence
Their designs are now brightening up our computer cabinets.

The Secret Garden - M&M Productions
As part of our Mental Health Awareness day on Thursday 10th October, our children in Years 1-6 took a brain break as they watched a brilliant theatre production of The Secret Garden presented by M&M Productions. The children really enjoyed the brilliant performance and the fantastic singing.

Anglo Saxon Day
We had a very exciting start to our week in Owl Class. We came in dressed as Anglo Saxons and had an expert come in to help us become experts ourselves in our knowledge of the Anglo Saxons. We looked at artefacts (including a smelly fish, a warm coat and a horn cup), learnt about their lifestyle, and played a game called ‘fox and geese’. Mrs Howe did attempt to win against different Owls but she kept getting beaten… Most excitingly we looked at Anglo Saxon weapons and army re-enactments. The Owls particularly enjoyed discovering more about the different weapons needed on an Anglo Saxon battlefield and getting to use their shields we have made. It was very intimidating to watch them marching forward with their shield wall and I think if they went into battle they would be a fearsome army! We also re-enacted the Battle of Hastings to see how the Normans finally won the victory.
Horsham District Football
On Friday 27th September a football team attended a tournament a Tanbridge House. They all played brilliantly and supported each other as a team. We won 2 matches, lost 2 matches and drew 2 matches. Well done to the team.
West Sussex Big Sing Choir Adventure
It was such a joy to take 10 of our Choir members to the West Sussex Music Big Sing Event at The Weald on Thursday morning.
We joined 6 other Primary Schools in the Locality for the opportunity to sing together in a large ensemble and perform our own song 'Wonder'. The children did not let nerves get the better of them- they sung their hearts out!
The children worked hard to listen carefully to the Workshop Leader who taught us all new songs. The children developed their ability to sing in a round, use syncopated rhythms and experiment with harmonies.
All of the children did Plaistow and Kirdford proud and it was so lovely to see the children immersed in a morning of music.
A special thanks to all the lovely parents who made it possible to get our choir members to and from the event.
Well done to everyone involved!
Sports Day
What a lovely day!
We kick off sports day with a carousel of activities which allowed everyone to earn lots of lovely housepoints for their team. After a quick play we then moved on to the relay races. It was a lovely atmosphere at lunchtime with a picnic and playing on the field and then straight into the flat races and the Year 5 & 6 long distance races.
Well done to all the children and congratulations Wey house for winning the house point trophy for the day.
