Wednesday's Maths & English
Wednesday
Well as we were adding them yesterday. It now makes sense to do some subtracting. Be careful with the ones where you are taking away from more than one whole!
Watch a slightly different video if you would like a reminder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMJZXKRhEzE
For extra credit, remember to simplify the fraction where possible e.g. instead of writing 3/9 we can write 1/3

Then try this Kahoot quiz:
Now try this work that would have been your homework and has been sat on top of the books for the last 10 days!
I have attached a picture of it but don’t feel like you have to print it out. You can just answer the questions in your red home learning books!
Try to remember:
1) Simplify the fractions where possible e.g. instead of 2/8 writing 1/4
2) Convert improper fractions into mixed numbers 9/2 = 4½

Good luck with the English and Maths!
Please remember that the English task might take you Friday through until Monday. I will come up with an e-mail that you can take pictures or send your leaflets too.
Maths - today is X Tables day. Remember as Mr. King said you may still have to do the Multiplication Test Check in Year 5 so keep practising! :D

Thursday's Work - English and Maths
Hello Owls,
I hope you have enjoyed your first few days of home learning. I have never walked to much in my life. One of the advantages of living in the countryside is we have so much unexplored wilderness right on our doorstep. On Tuesday, my family and I walked all the way to Bignor Roman Villa - remember that trip back in Autumn Term? What fun!
Anyway, enjoy the work and keep positive! :)

3 consecutive numbers which add to make 30 = 9 + 10 + 11
I think of a number that is less than 20. I can make it from 2, 3 and 5 consecutive numbers:
The number is 15
2 numbers to make 15 = 7 + 8
3 numbers to make 15 = 4 + 5 + 6
5 numbers to make 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5

Remember if you find this too challenging or too straightforward you can always look on the blogs of other classes.
English
Try this SPaG work - revision of Y3 skills mostly. Also remember there are weekly spellings: This week’s 5 spellings: the ‘u’ sound spelt ‘ou’ young, touch, double, trouble, country
Have a test on Thursday like normal!
As we do in spelling sessions: use them in sentences, draw them, write them, look them up!

To cheer you all up, this took 2 and a half hours of (aided) construction last night!
Home Learning
Dear Year 4, I know this is a strange time but we will get through it. I'll still be here to ask questions to and chat to. I will keep you updated each day with the sort of work we would be doing in class. I will try to make it as fun as possible without requiring loads of equipment. Take care of yourselves and your families. I shall miss seeing you all each day. Smile and be kind. We will all be together again!
I will be setting work, daily where possible, on here and where possible on Google Classroom (for those of you who can access it in our group trial - once we’ve ironed out the creases we will ensure everyone has access to it).
Have fun and take care,
Mr. Ind
Buzzwire Games
In Science, on Wednesday afternoon we all collaborated and created buzz wire games in order to show off our knowledge and understanding of electricity. There was lots of good science on show, including lots of good vocabulary like conductor, insulator, component, circuit, symbol. A fantastic end to a truly shocking topic (sorry!). Well done Owl Class. :)
World Book Day Fun!
What an amazing day we had! Year 4 had such fun building their dens and then sharing and reading books in them. We were also joined by our friends from Year 1 who joined in. I even had some curious Squirrels attempting to storm into my own den! Thankfully my mini cakes were well hidden. What a lovely day sharing our love of books and reading.
SAXON & VIKING TRADE FAIR
On Friday afternoon, we had our trade fair! There was lots of bartering, buying, trading, selling and a little extortion! There are definitely some entrepreneurs to be in this class…
Preparing for the Trade Fair
Over the last couple of afternoons we have been busy crafting items to trade and sell at our Viking and Saxon Trade Fair on Friday. We have been smiths working with metal, potters, bakers, farmers, jewellery makers and shipbuilders. Lots of great D.T., Art and design and history skill on show!
You'll really DIG this...
On Tuesday afternoon, we did a spot of excavation in a hunt for Anglo-Saxon artefacts. After learning about the Sutton Hoo find we carried out our own archaeological dig in the Environmental Area. We discovered bones, a skull, some charm bracelets and ceramic items more likely to date from the Roman Era (hence the Waitrose trademark!).
Oh how charming!
This week in DT we have been designing, creating and evaluating Anglo-Saxon charm bracelets and necklaces. We used a variety of tools to help us and included various wooden beads, minerals and glass in many different designs. Some of us even included runes on them - fancy!
